Tennis in Boulder City
A town of about 15,000 people with no private tennis club and no college programme just won both Nevada Class 3A state championships. In 2025 the Boulder City Eagles girls beat Truckee 10-5 for their second state title in three years, and the boys finally got past South Tahoe — having lost the final to them in each of the two previous seasons. Both are coached by Rachelle Huxford, and both entered 2026 defending.
The rivalry runs north to south. Boulder City’s 3A finals are contested against Truckee and South Tahoe, and in 2024 both title matches were played at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center — a desert town beside Lake Mead settling its season up in the Sierra. Locally, tennis runs on high school and municipal park courts; for club coaching and league depth, the Las Vegas Valley is 25 miles north-west.

The 2025 Double
Both Eagles programmes won 3A state championships in 2025. The girls beat Truckee 10-5 on 24 October for a second title in three years; the boys finally got past South Tahoe after two straight seasons as runners-up to them.
3A Southern Region Championships
Both teams took 3A Southern Region titles in 2025, the girls beating Cimarron-Memorial 10-8 at home. Individual regional play is staged at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

Boulder City’s 3A title matches are contested against Truckee and South Tahoe, and the 2024 finals were played at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center — a desert town beside Lake Mead settling its season in the mountains.

Court locations and counts should be confirmed with Boulder City Parks and Recreation before a trip — they were not verified to court level for this build. Boulder City sits within USTA Nevada, the state’s district inside USTA Intermountain, but organised adult competition is concentrated in the Las Vegas Valley about 25 miles north-west — Henderson is roughly twenty minutes away. A town with no tennis club that keeps winning state titles. Two highlights:
Boulder City swept both 3A state titles in 2025. The girls’ win over Truckee was their second in three years; the boys’ win over South Tahoe came after losing the final to that same school in both previous seasons. From a town of roughly 15,000 with no private tennis club and no college programme.
The 3A final is a desert-versus-mountains fixture. Boulder City sits beside Lake Mead at the edge of the Mojave; its title opponents come from the Sierra. In 2024 both finals were played at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center — roughly 400 miles from home, and about 6,000 feet higher.
College Tennis & the Pathway Out
No college programme in Boulder City — but the route is short and well trodden.
There is no college tennis here, and no NJCAA option in town. Players continuing in the sport look to the Las Vegas Valley: UNLV plays Division I Mountain West tennis at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, about 25 miles north-west, and the College of Southern Nevada operates campuses across the valley. Which makes the school programme unusually important. In a town this size, with no club tier and no college, Boulder City High School is the tennis infrastructure — and on the evidence of 2023, 2024 and 2025 it is doing rather more with that than most far larger programmes manage.

NIAA 3A · Boulder City2025 Class 3A state champions, beating Truckee 10-5 on 24 October — a second state title in three years after the programme’s first-ever championship in 2023, and a runner-up finish in 2024. The Boulder City Review has called it a budding dynasty.

The three-year arc is the story. In 2023 the girls won the programme’s first state championship in school history, beating Truckee at Bishop Gorman, while the boys lost their final to South Tahoe. In 2024 both teams reached the final and both lost, at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center. In 2025 both won. Few programmes anywhere convert that sequence.
The girls’ doubles depth is worth noting on its own. A recent 3A Southern Region doubles final was an all-Boulder City affair — Mariah Torgesen and Kendall Shamo against Chelsie Larson and Lyla Gunson. Having both finalists from one small school is not a common sight.
Nevada plays both seasons in the autumn under the NIAA. Confirm current classifications and results before the season — and note that the Class 3A field pairs southern Clark County schools against Sierra programmes, so the state final is often a long journey for someone.
