Greater Columbus is Ohio's largest and most active tennis market -- a region spanning Franklin, Delaware, Union, Licking, and Fairfield counties with one of the deepest indoor tennis networks in the Midwest, premier private clubs, and one of the most decorated college tennis programs in NCAA history. The Ohio State Buckeyes men's tennis team -- under head coach Ty Tucker, the winningest men's tennis coach in Big Ten history -- has claimed 19 consecutive Big Ten regular-season titles (2006-2025), three ITA Indoor National Championships (2014, 2019, 2023), and ran off an astounding 200 consecutive home wins at Ohio State -- the longest home win streak in Division I sports history. Home matches are played at the state-of-the-art Ty Tucker Tennis Center, a six-court indoor facility in the OSU Athletic District.
Columbus's dedicated tennis infrastructure is anchored by the Racquet Club of Columbus (10 indoor Novacrylic courts on Bethel Road), Olympic Indoor Tennis Club (10 air-supported indoor courts on Indianola), Wickertree Tennis (8 newly resurfaced Dynacushion courts), Scarborough East Tennis Club (8 indoor tennis courts with PlaySight video on every court), and Elysium Tennis in New Albany (5 tennis courts plus 28 pickleball courts, established 2008). The New Albany Tennis Center -- directed by USPTA and USTA High Performance Specialist Paul Kobelt -- has produced seventeen OHSAA state champions, six Ohio State Buckeyes, and seven players who went on to earn ATP or WTA world rankings. Historic private clubs including Scioto Country Club, Columbus Country Club, and Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin round out a deep private-club landscape.
USTA league play is organized by the Greater Columbus Tennis Association (GCTA) -- the local USTA Community Tennis Association, with roots going back to the 1950s Upper Arlington Tennis Association -- under the Ohio Valley Tennis Association (OVTA) district. Whether you are looking for competitive tournaments, organized doubles leagues, junior summer camps, or a private lesson anywhere in Central Ohio, Columbus offers year-round tennis for players of every age and skill level.

The Ohio State Buckeyes men's tennis program -- under Director of Tennis and men's head coach Ty Tucker -- has become one of the most successful and consistent programs in all of NCAA Division I college athletics. Tucker has amassed a 747-107 (.875) record over 26 seasons, making him the winningest head coach in Big Ten men's tennis history and the 9th-winningest men's tennis coach in Division I history.
The Buckeyes own 19 consecutive Big Ten regular-season titles (2006-2025) and 15 Big Ten Tournament championships. Nationally, they have won the ITA Indoor National Championship three times (2014, 2019, 2023), reached the NCAA Team Championship final match in 2009, 2018, and 2023, and have made 25 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2000-2025). Perhaps most remarkably, Ohio State ran off 200 consecutive home wins in Columbus -- the longest home win streak in the history of Division I college athletics in any sport.
The Buckeyes play at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, a 75,000-square-foot, six-indoor-court facility in the OSU Athletic District featuring theater-style seating behind every court. Outdoor competition is held at the adjacent Auer Tennis Complex. The women's program -- also under Tucker's oversight as Director of Tennis -- has captured multiple Big Ten titles over the last decade and reached the 2017 NCAA national semifinals. Notable Buckeye alumni on the ATP Tour include J.J. Wolf, Blaz Rola, Chase Buchanan, and Mikael Torpegaard.

Adult competitive tennis in Columbus is organized through the Columbus League, part of the Ohio Valley Tennis Association (OVTA) -- the USTA Midwest district covering central and southern Ohio. The local Greater Columbus Tennis Association (GCTA) serves as the USTA Community Tennis Association for Central Ohio, running programs including USTA Adult Leagues, USTA Area Qualifiers, Junior Team Tennis, the 10 & Under Initiative, and Men's & Women's Summer Leagues. GCTA has been active since the 1950s, growing out of the Upper Arlington Tennis Association. USTA leagues run at NTRP levels from 2.5 through 5.0, including mixed doubles, combo doubles, Flex leagues, and age-group divisions (18 & Over, 40 & Over, 55 & Over, 65 & Over), with teams advancing through OVTA District Championships to the USTA Midwest Section Championships and national competition. The Racquet Club of Columbus, Olympic Indoor Tennis Club, Wickertree Tennis, Scarborough East Tennis Club, and Elysium Tennis host the majority of Columbus USTA league teams, alongside several private country clubs.

High school tennis in Central Ohio is governed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) across two divisions (Divisions I and II). In Ohio, High School Girls Tennis is a fall sport and High School Boys Tennis is a spring sport. Columbus is home to some of the most consistently competitive programs in Ohio -- led by New Albany High School, whose boys doubles team of Abhinav Dandu and Jackson Clements won the 2025 OHSAA Division I state doubles championship, and Upper Arlington High School, a historic Columbus-area powerhouse. The OHSAA state tournament is held each year at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason -- the same facility that hosts the Cincinnati Open -- giving Central Ohio's top high schoolers the experience of competing on one of the world's premier tennis stages.
