The NC Sandhills and Fayetteville metro offer one of the most distinctive tennis environments in the Southeast -- world-class resort facilities, a deep network of private clubs, and year-round outdoor play supported by the region's mild longleaf pine climate. The Sandhills sit at a gentle elevation plateau between the NC Piedmont and coastal plain, giving Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen a spring-and-fall climate that is nearly unrivaled for comfortable outdoor tennis. Pinehurst Resort is the region's most iconic tennis destination, offering clay and hard courts on the grounds of one of golf's most celebrated properties, with a long history of hosting USTA events and drawing competitive players from across the country. USTA North Carolina coordinates USTA league play throughout Moore County, anchoring an active adult and junior tennis community across the Pinehurst-Southern Pines corridor.
In Fayetteville and Cumberland County, the tennis scene is built around strong public court infrastructure and a year-round recreational and competitive community. The Fayetteville Athletic Club and the Mazarick Park Tennis Center operated by the City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department, are the area's primary tennis hub with hard courts, USTA leagues, and junior programming accessible to all residents. The Cape Fear Tennis Association coordinates USTA league play for adults and juniors across Cumberland County and the surrounding communities of Hope Mills, Spring Lake, and Raeford. Methodist University Monarchs (NCAA Division III, USA South) field varsity tennis on campus, providing collegiate-level competition in the heart of the Fayetteville metro. Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) also contributes a substantial year-round playing community to the region's overall tennis participation.
Whether you are looking for competitive tournaments, organized doubles leagues, junior summer camps, or a private lesson in the heart of the Sandhills, this region offers year-round tennis for players of every age and skill level.

Adult competitive tennis across the Sandhills and Fayetteville metro is coordinated by two USTA Community Tennis Associations. The Sandhills Area Tennis Association (SATA) organizes USTA league play throughout Moore County -- covering Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen, and surrounding communities -- at all NTRP levels from 2.5 through 5.0, including Flex leagues, mixed doubles, combo doubles, and 18 & Over, 40 & Over, and 55 & Over divisions, with teams advancing through USTA Carolina to state and sectional championships. Pinehurst Resort anchors resort competitive play and has hosted prestigious USTA events throughout the Sandhills. In Fayetteville and Cumberland County, the Cape Fear Tennis Association coordinates USTA league play at all levels, with Crown Tennis Center serving as the primary venue for public competitive and recreational tennis. The region's mild climate enables an extended competitive season, with outdoor league play continuing well into the fall and resuming earlier in the spring compared to much of the mid-Atlantic.
Junior tennis development across the Sandhills and Fayetteville area benefits from year-round outdoor playing conditions, a growing network of USPTA and PTR-certified teaching professionals, and active USTA Junior Team Tennis programming coordinated by both SATA and the Cape Fear Tennis Association.
High school tennis in the Sandhills and Fayetteville area is governed by the NCHSAA. Moore County schools compete primarily in the Sandhills Athletic Conference (SAC). Private and independent schools compete under the NCISAA.
Governing Bodies: NCHSAA -- public school tennis | NCISAA -- independent school tennis
The Fayetteville metro is anchored by Methodist University as the region's primary collegiate tennis program, with Sandhills Community College offering junior college opportunities for developing players in the Moore County area.
