The Greater Phoenix Area — the Valley of the Sun — is the heart of Arizona tennis. Spanning Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Peoria, Glendale, Sun City, Goodyear, Surprise and more, the metro pairs a world-class year-round outdoor climate with the scale of one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. It is the only place in Arizona with a professional ATP event — the Arizona Tennis Classic, an ATP Challenger Tour 175 held each March at the Phoenix Country Club during the lead-in to the BNP Paribas Open at nearby Indian Wells.
Public, resort, and private tennis is everywhere in the Valley. The city of Phoenix operates the Phoenix Tennis Center, a 25-court municipal flagship, alongside dozens of park courts; Scottsdale is the metro's resort-tennis capital; and the West Valley is home to the large Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. Adult and junior league play is coordinated through the USTA Southwest Phoenix Region, the most populous of USTA Southwest's three Arizona regions.
Greater Phoenix tennis runs across multiple tiers: two NCAA Division I programs (Arizona State in the Big 12 at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, and Grand Canyon in the WAC in Phoenix), the state's deepest high school tradition (Brophy College Prep, Xavier College Prep, Chaparral), the iTUSA Tennis Academy in Glendale, and a vast network of public, resort, HOA, and private courts. Winter is the peak season, while the summer heat shifts play to early mornings and evenings — with shaded, covered, and indoor courts keeping tennis active all year. Whether you are a junior, a league competitor, or a newcomer, the Valley's tennis community is large, active, and welcoming.

Greater Phoenix is the engine of Arizona tennis. The Valley of the Sun's warm, dry climate makes it one of the best year-round outdoor tennis markets in the country, and the metro packs in a professional ATP event (the Arizona Tennis Classic), two NCAA Division I programs (Arizona State and Grand Canyon), the state's deepest high school tradition, a high-performance academy in iTUSA, and a sprawling network of public, resort, HOA, and private courts. Winter is the peak season, drawing seasonal residents and visitors ahead of nearby Indian Wells. Many Valley players compete in tournaments and doubles leagues organized through Tennis Circuits®.
From a professional ATP event to Division I programs, a high-performance academy, and tour players, the Valley anchors Arizona's tennis identity.
Greater Phoenix is home to the state's deepest concentration of high school tennis, governed by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) across Divisions I, II, and III. Both boys' and girls' tennis are contested in the spring, and as of 2025 USTA Southwest is the official presenting partner of the AIA Tennis State Championships. The Valley's private and public schools have produced many of Arizona's all-time tennis dynasties.

East & West Valley Programs |
AIA Divisions I–III | Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Peoria, and Surprise high schools add deep competition across all three AIA divisions, supported by the USTA Southwest–AIA championship partnership. |
