Long Island is one of the great junior-tennis hotbeds in the United States — a region whose dense network of private clubs, indoor facilities, and elite academies has developed nationally ranked players for generations. Spanning Nassau and Suffolk Counties, Long Island holds one of the highest concentrations of indoor and HarTru (clay) tennis clubs anywhere in the country, anchored by the John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) at SPORTIME's Long Island campuses in Syosset, Bethpage, and Port Washington. The academy's most celebrated homegrown product is Noah Rubin of Merrick, who trained at SPORTIME and won the 2014 Wimbledon boys' singles title.
Tennis across the region is organized by the USTA Eastern Long Island Region, which runs all USTA tennis programs across Nassau and Suffolk as part of USTA Eastern. County championships and sectional events are held at venues like Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, and USTA League play runs year-round thanks to the Island's deep indoor infrastructure.
Modern Long Island tennis runs across multiple distinct tiers: the elite JMTA / SPORTIME academy pipeline, a deep network of private and indoor clubs across the North Shore, South Shore, and the Hamptons, two NCAA Division I college programs (Stony Brook and Hofstra) plus Division II Adelphi, and a powerhouse high school scene organized through Section VIII (Nassau) and Section XI (Suffolk) that routinely sends teams and individuals to the New York State championships. Whether you are a junior with college aspirations, a seasoned adult competitor, or a newcomer to the game, Long Island's tennis community is deep, competitive, and welcoming at every level.

Long Island's tennis community is defined by depth and development. Few places in the country pack more private clubs, indoor courts, and elite junior academies into a single region. The John McEnroe Tennis Academy's Long Island campuses, a vast indoor-club network across Nassau and Suffolk, and a high school tennis scene that regularly produces New York State champions all combine to make the Island one of the strongest player-development ecosystems in America. Many Long Island players compete in tournaments and doubles leagues organized through Tennis Circuits®.
Three pillars anchor the Long Island tennis landscape — the elite academy pipeline, the public-tennis hub, and the deep indoor-club network that keeps the region playing year-round.
John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) at SPORTIME brings world-class junior development to Long Island through campuses at SPORTIME Syosset, Sportime Bethpage, and SPORTIME Port Washington. Founded in 2010 by Queens native John McEnroe in partnership with SPORTIME, the academy established its Long Island base in 2012 and is directed by John and Patrick McEnroe. Its homegrown success story is Noah Rubin of Merrick, who trained at SPORTIME and won the 2014 Wimbledon boys' singles title.
Eisenhower Park (East Meadow) is the public heart of Nassau County tennis. Its tennis courts host the Nassau County high school championships and a range of USTA Eastern Long Island Region events, free-lesson days, and community programs, making it one of the most active public tennis venues on the Island.
The Indoor & HarTru Club Network is the backbone of year-round Long Island tennis. Facilities such as SPORTIME Syosset, Sportime Bethpage, Point Set Indoor Racquet Club, Robbie Wagner's Tournament Training, Carefree Racquet Club, and many more — many offering both hard and HarTru (clay) surfaces — sustain league play, junior academies, and adult programs through the cold New York winters.
Long Island has produced and developed accomplished players and is home to influential academies, clubs, and college programs.
Long Island high school tennis is among the most competitive in New York State, organized through Section VIII (Nassau County) and Section XI (Suffolk County) of the NYSPHSAA, with girls' tennis in the fall and boys' tennis in the spring. County champions advance to the Long Island Championship and on to the New York State championships. Nassau County individual championships are held at Eisenhower Park. The programs below are among the most decorated on the Island.
