The Greenville–Spartanburg Upstate region is one of South Carolina's most vibrant tennis communities, anchored by a rich network of private clubs, elite junior academies, nationally competitive NCAA programs, and three dedicated USTA Community Tennis Associations serving thousands of players. Greenville is the larger of the two cities and home to the region's highest concentration of tennis facilities. Greenville Country Club operates a 17-court complex rated among the finest private club programs in the Upstate. Greenville Tennis Club in Simpsonville offers 12 courts — 8 state-of-the-art hydrogrid soft clay courts with sub-surface irrigation and 4 hard courts, all lighted to 26 feet. acac Fitness & Wellness provides 9 lighted Har-Tru clay courts, 3 lighted hard courts, and 2 indoor hard courts — one of the few indoor tennis options in the Upstate. Haviland Tennis Academy is the region's premier dedicated junior training facility, featuring 4 clay and 6 hard courts staffed by coaches with former top-10 world junior rankings and ATP professional experience.
In Spartanburg, the Country Club of Spartanburg holds a USTA top-100 club program designation with a recently renovated complex. The Spartanburg Athletic Club (SAC) offers 4 clay and 5 hard courts, all lighted, while the Willis Road YMCA Racquet Sport Center adds 4 outdoor Har-Tru clay and 2 indoor hard courts. The collegiate landscape includes Furman University Paladins (NCAA Division I, SoCon) — whose women's team captured their 22nd SoCon Championship in 2025 and ranked 9th nationally among mid-major programs — and Wofford College Terriers (NCAA Division I, SoCon) at the 11-court Reeves Tennis Center. Adult league play is coordinated by the Greenville Area CTA (GACTA), the UPTA (Upstate Tennis Association), and the Spartanburg Area Tennis Association (SATA).
Whether you are looking for competitive tournaments, organized doubles leagues, junior summer camps, or a private lesson, the Greenville–Spartanburg Upstate provides year-round tennis for players of every age and skill level.
