Arlington is one of the most active tennis cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, anchored by the Arlington Tennis Center — a city-owned public facility at 500 W. Mayfield Rd. with 26 lighted courts, a 3,000 sq ft pro shop, locker rooms with showers, and a certified teaching staff. Opened in January 1995, ATC is a designated USTA Tennis Welcome Center and one of the highest-volume USTA tournament sites in the Metroplex, hosting Level 5 and Level 6 junior and adult events throughout the year as well as national-caliber competitions. Court reservations and program registration are available at NaturallyFun.org or by calling (817) 459-6163.
Beyond Arlington Tennis Center, the city's tennis landscape includes the UTA Tennis Center on the UT Arlington campus — 10 hard courts with lights and spectator seating, remodeled in 2012 and resurfaced in 2019, serving as home to UTA Mavericks NCAA Division I tennis and hosting ITA summer circuit events and UIL Regional tennis. The Viridian Tennis Center provides 4 modern lighted courts for residents of the Viridian master-planned community, and Rolling Hills Country Club offers private member courts. Dozens of additional lighted public park courts are scattered across Arlington's 99 square miles, making the city one of the most court-dense communities in North Texas. USTA League play, junior development, competitive high school programs, and Division I collegiate tennis all call Arlington home.

Arlington's tennis identity is built around two pillars. Arlington Tennis Center, opened in 1995, has become one of the highest-volume USTA tournament sites in the DFW Metroplex, hosting hundreds of sanctioned events and earning recognition as a USTA Tennis Welcome Center. The second pillar is UTA Mavericks tennis, whose men's and women's programs have combined for over 20 conference championships across the Southland Conference, Sun Belt Conference, and WAC. Head coach Diego Benitez has helmed both programs since 2006, earning three conference Coach of the Year awards and guiding the Mavericks to four NCAA Tournament appearances. Arlington sits at the geographic center of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex — and its tennis community reflects that central position, drawing players from across Tarrant, Dallas, and Johnson counties. Arlington Tennis Center's 26-court facility and tournament calendar make it one of the busiest public tennis venues in North Texas, serving recreational players, competitive juniors, adult league teams, and UIL high school programs all year long. The city's strong Division I collegiate program at UTA adds a higher level of tennis visibility and provides junior players with an aspirational pathway. With five UIL 6A high schools competing in the same district, Arlington has one of the deepest municipal high school tennis landscapes in Texas. Arlington players can find tournaments, doubles leagues, and match play through Tennis Circuits®.
Arlington's tennis identity is shaped less by a single marquee name than by a deep institutional tradition — built through decades of competitive programming at Arlington Tennis Center and the sustained excellence of the UTA Mavericks programs.
Arlington's adult tennis scene is driven by a busy league and tournament calendar at Arlington Tennis Center. ATC hosts USTA Level 6 and Level 7 adult tournaments throughout the year and operates recreational and competitive men's and women's leagues. The Arlington Tennis Association (ATA) supports league play across the city including at the Viridian Tennis Center. The DFW Metroplex context means Arlington players regularly compete against strong fields from Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Southlake, and Irving — keeping the local competitive level high across all NTRP rating bands.

All five schools field boys and girls tennis teams at the varsity and JV levels.
The University of Texas at Arlington fields both men's and women's tennis programs in the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference (WAC), competing at the UTA Tennis Center — 10 hard courts with lights and spectator seating, remodeled in 2012 and resurfaced in 2019. The programs are led by head coach Diego Benitez, who has been at UTA since 2003 and became head coach in 2006. Benitez is a three-time conference Coach of the Year (Southland 2009 and 2011, Sun Belt 2022) and has guided the Mavericks to four NCAA Tournament appearances and over 100 all-conference selections across both programs.
The UTA men's program has won 12 conference championships, including 10 regular season titles in the Southland Conference with a stretch of 5 championships in 6 years from 1998 to 2003. The team claimed its first Sun Belt Conference title in 2016 as a fifth seed after stunning three higher seeds in succession, finishing 18-10 overall and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The program won its first WAC championship in 2023 and repeated as both regular season and tournament champions in 2024. Standout performers include Guanarteme Nuez, who won the 2018 Sun Belt Player of the Year award and advanced to the NCAA Singles Championship ranked as high as No. 89 nationally, and Alan Sau Franco, who earned Sun Belt First Team honors in 2022 after winning 20 matches at No. 1 singles.
The UTA women's program has also won 11 conference championships, including a remarkable stretch of 6 titles in 7 years from 1999 to 2005 in the Southland Conference. The women claimed their first Sun Belt regular season title in 2021 going 8-0 in conference play, then made it back-to-back regular season championships in 2022 while setting a program record of 23 wins. They won the WAC title in their first year in the conference in 2023. In 2017, the doubles tandem of Astrid Gehre and Anna Wichert advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA Doubles Championship after going 18-3. The UTA women's team also earned the NCAA Public Recognition Award for academic achievement four consecutive years, reflecting a program culture that excels both on court and in the classroom.
