Western North Carolina offers a tennis experience unlike anywhere else in the state -- mountain resort facilities, boutique private clubs, and year-round outdoor play made possible by the region's mild highland climate. At elevations ranging from 2,100 to 2,500 feet, Asheville and Hendersonville enjoy summer temperatures that average in the low-to-mid 80s°F -- dramatically cooler and less humid than the NC Piedmont -- while winters remain mild enough to sustain outdoor tennis through most of the year. The Omni Grove Park Inn is the region's most iconic tennis destination, offering courts set against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains and drawing resort guests and tournament players from across the Southeast. Asheville Racquet Club is the city's leading private club, anchoring the local USTA league community with clay and hard courts and year-round programming for adults and juniors. The Aston Park Tennis Center, operated by the City of Asheville, provides accessible public courts and is a hub for USTA league matches, open tournaments, and junior development throughout Buncombe County.
In Hendersonville and the broader Henderson County highlands, Hendersonville Tennis Club and the public courts at Jackson Park serve a deeply engaged year-round tennis community that takes full advantage of the area's exceptional outdoor playing conditions. The region also attracts visiting players drawn by destination resort properties and private mountain communities throughout the Blue Ridge. The UNC Asheville Bulldogs (NCAA Division I, Big South) field varsity tennis programs on campus, providing collegiate-level competition in the heart of the mountains. Adult league play is coordinated by the Mountain Tennis Association (MTA), which organizes USTA league play across Buncombe, Henderson, and surrounding western NC counties at all NTRP levels.
Whether you are looking for competitive tournaments, organized doubles leagues, junior summer camps, or a private lesson with a mountain view, Western NC offers year-round tennis for players of every age and skill level.

The MTA organizes USTA League play at all NTRP levels from 2.5 through 5.0, including Flex leagues, mixed doubles, combo doubles, and 18 & Over, 40 & Over, and 55 & Over divisions, with teams advancing through USTA Carolina to state and sectional championships. Asheville Racquet Club is the region's most active USTA league hub, fielding teams across multiple NTRP levels year-round on its clay and hard courts. The Aston Park Tennis Center serves as Asheville's public league venue, hosting USTA matches and open play for Buncombe County residents. In Hendersonville, Hendersonville Tennis Club fields active USTA teams and Jackson Park provides public court access for Henderson County players. The region's mild climate enables a longer competitive season than most of the Southeast, with outdoor league play continuing well into the fall and resuming earlier in the spring.
Junior tennis development in Western NC benefits from the region's unique combination of year-round playable outdoor conditions, a growing network of USPTA and PTR-certified teaching professionals, and active USTA Junior Team Tennis programming through the Mountain Tennis Association.
