Lubbock's tennis identity is closely tied to Texas Tech University. The Lady Raiders won the 2025 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championship — only the second Big 12 title in program history and first since 2017 — going 22-2 on the season. The men's program made 12 NCAA Championship appearances under longtime head coach Tim Siegel during his 23-year tenure before his retirement in 2015; the program is currently led by head coach Michael Breler. Lubbock also serves as a regional UIL tennis site, hosting competitions for West Texas high schools. With over 70 courts citywide, Lubbock is one of the most tennis-active cities in West Texas.

The Falls offers a full junior pathway — from QuickStart red/orange/green ball programs for ages 4–13 through Junior Development Elite tracks for players rated 4.0 UTR and above. Junior players in Lubbock compete within the USTA Texas Section and progress through UIL high school competition at multiple classification levels. Junior Team Tennis (JTT) programs through Tennis Circuits® provide additional team-based competitive play.

Lubbock is home to one of Texas’s premier collegiate tennis programs. Texas Tech University fields both men's and women's teams competing in the Big 12 Conference. Local junior players often advance through Lubbock junior tennis programs.
The Lady Raiders captured the 2025 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-2 win over UCF, their second Big 12 tournament title in program history. Junior Yekaterina Dmitrichenko was named Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and five players earned All-Tournament honors. Head coach Brian Herendeen guided the program to what he described as the most-improved team in the country in 2025.
The Red Raiders men's team has reached the NCAA Championships 12 times under longtime head coach Tim Siegel, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2005. The program, currently led by head coach Michael Breler, continues to compete at the top level in the Big 12 Conference. The men's program has a long history, winning the Border Conference tennis championships in 1936, 1937, and 1950.
