Did You Know?

Plano’s public tennis runs deeper than most cities its size. Two highlights:

🏟

Plano Parks and Recreation broke ground on its first public tennis facility in 1977; High Point Park Tennis Center opened the following year with seven courts and a pro shop. Ken Sumrow led it for more than 45 years before retiring at the end of 2025, and a late-2020 renovation added a two-story, 8,000-square-foot pro shop and a center showcase court. The USTA named it a 2022 Outstanding Facility.

🎾

The Plano area carries 133 tennis courts, with 100 of them within ten miles of each other — the depth that persuaded USTA Texas to move The Texas Slam, one of the largest junior tournaments in the country, to Plano after years in Georgetown, Abilene, College Station and Wichita Falls.
